Wrexham sold-out kits are re-selling for hundreds of dollars

It’s safe to say that Welcome to Wrexham took a financial toll on the Welsh club. The docuseries follows the team as famed owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney attempt to take Wrexham AFC to new heights.

The popularity of the first season has helped fuel the need for a second season. In fact, a television statistics aggregator suggested that Welcome to Wrexham ranked seventh among the most-watched American shows in early September. McElhenney has since announced that the second season will be available in 2023.

Because the show is so popular, Wrexham created record sales on merchandise. In a statement released by the club, online sales exceeded $400,000 during a period from August to September. This does not include sales at the physical team store at the Racecourse Ground or anywhere else in the city.

“There was never any doubt that interest in the Club’s merchandise would increase due to the documentary, but even the most optimistic projections fell short of previous levels,” the statement read.

For comparison, the team claims total online sales were around $67,000 in the same time period last year.

Scalpers hop on sold-out Wrexham kits

The club claimed that the team’s third jersey would be a go-to product for fans of the show. However, both this shirt and the home kit are currently out of stock. Resellers have been flocking to places like eBay to cash in on the frenzy.

Past sales on the site show that Wrexham jerseys have been regularly reselling for $150-$400. The current highest price for a Wrexham jersey purchased on eBay is $562.

The team’s blue away jersey is currently still available on the team’s website. However, there are only a few small sizes left. However, Wrexham have stated that a fresh supply of shirts will be available soon.

“The good news is that there will be more stock of training wear on the way in the coming weeks with a significant replenishment order for match shirts ahead of Christmas,” the club said.

World Soccer Talk has contacted Macron kit suppliers for comment but has yet to hear back.
