Dutch striker Wout Weghorst is interested in joining Manchester United, according to Fabrizio Romano in today’s edition of his Daily Briefing exclusive to CaughtOffside.
Man Utd have few options up front after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, while Erik ten Hag will surely be concerned by the lack of consistency from attacking players such as Anthony Martial, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
It looks like there might be room for someone like Weghorst to come in as a short-term option, and Romano thinks the 30-year-old is a good fit in that regard, although he also feels the club will need to make one more significant signing move to that position in summer.
For now, however, United are exploring the terms of Weghorst’s deal, with the Dutch international currently on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, meaning he might not be the easiest signing to pull off.
Still, Romano says that Ten Hag is interested in Weghorst and that the player would also like to move to Old Trafford.
“Wout Weghorst is one of the many players offered to Man United as a smart and cheap option for the January window,” Romano said.

“Ten Hag appreciates Weghorst and are now exploring the terms of the deal with Besiktas and Burnley also involved in this story due to the loan deal agreed last summer. The player would be interested in the move.
“I think he can be a good option in the short term, but for sure Man Utd need an important player in that position in the summer, in my opinion.”
