Worry for Juventus after Szczesny suffers an injury in latest friendly

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny suffered a neck injury in their friendly match against Standard Liège, which could keep him out of their next game against Cremonese.

The Pole is his first option and he was returning after helping his country in the World Cup in Qatar.

Juve have been preparing for the restart next week and the match against the Belgians was their last friendly before Serie A resumes.

A Football Italia report says Szczesny was sent off from the game because he suffered a neck problem and is now being monitored to see how he progresses.

Juve hopes it’s not a big deal. However, if he is unable to play in his first game against Cremonese, Mattia Perin is likely to start the match.

Juve FC says

Szczesny is an important member of our team and he is the first choice for a reason. However, we can be sure that Perin will do a good job, so we don’t need to rush him back into action.

If you need to rest for a few days to fully recover, the club should offer you that and only field players fit enough to play.

That way, we can prevent someone from exacerbating your injury problems and prolonging your time on the sideline.
