Manchester City have returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a crucial 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park. The team were looking to build on their recent Club World Cup success for tonight’s game on Merseyside.
Despite an early setback with Jack Harrison putting Everton 1-0 up, Manchester City showed their quality and character. Phil Foden equalized and Julian Alvarez later put City ahead from the penalty spot after Amadou Onana’s outstretched arm blocked Nathan Ake’s shot.
And then Bernardo Silva took advantage of a bad clearance by Jordan Pickford, scoring with a good finish to end the game 3-1 for the visitors.
In the second half, Alan Shearer praised goalscorer Phil Foden for his overall performance during his commentary for Amazon Prime Video.
“Phil Foden is so good with the ball at his feet. The touch of him when he’s under pressure, and the control, the balance and everything else. He is a magnificent player.
“Such a talented player, such a wonderful player, he always seems to be in control. He never faints, he never panics, he has been excellent in this second half.”
Phil Foden has been remarkably impressive for City in recent weeks, maintaining a high level of performance even during the team’s collective struggles. Operating primarily in a central role, Foden has demonstrated versatility and effectiveness both centrally and externally. Despite City’s difficult run, Foden has managed to maintain their standards and consistency.
