Wolves defender Toti Gomes has claimed he still doesn’t understand why his team’s winning ‘goal’ at Anfield was ruled out last night, revealing he spoke to officials who claimed the goal was ‘offside for a little bit’.
The Portugal under-20 international thought he had sent Julien Lopetegui’s side into the fourth round of the FA Cup with a deft quick strike, only to be awarded an offside against Matheus Nunes in the build-up.
The defender believes the officials “should have done better” and suggested they “help the big guys” but was “proud” of how Molineux’s team performed against the current trophy holders.
“In the end I tried to talk to them and they said I was a bit off my game, but I don’t understand how,” admitted a puzzled Toti (quoted by Birmingham Mail). “In the end I saw the replay and I still don’t understand how it wasn’t a goal.

“They should have done better. In these kinds of moments they help the big teams a bit and for us that’s not good. Sometimes these mistakes help great teams. It’s frustrating because we fought for a good result and these little things in the end make the difference.
“I’m still proud of the team because we gave it our all until the end, it was a good match.”
Despite the fact that yesterday the decisions were in our favor, the actions of the officials must certainly be questioned.
Video assistant referee Mike Dean was reportedly not given access to the relevant footage that would have seen the Wolves goal and the referees had no choice but to stick to the on-pitch decision.
Mo Salah’s goal early in the first half was also quite questionable after he received the ball from Cody Gakpo despite being in an offside position, only because of a strange rule that meant a touch from a Los Angeles defender. Wolves then put the Egyptian king up for grabs.
We understand Toti’s frustration and Lopetegui’s side will be eager to inflict a defeat on us when we face them in the replay later this month; we must be prepared for it.
