Manchester United clashes with Barcelona tonight in the Europa League. While the injured trio of Antony, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial not making the trip to Camp Nou is a concern for fans, another question that has been on fans’ minds is:
What kit will United wear to face the Blaugrana?
This Thursday night, the two giants of European football will meet in the first leg of the Europa League play-offs. Up to 99,000 fans are expected to fill the stadium to support their respective teams (via Manchester United).
Host Barcelona will don their iconic blue and red home colours, easily one of the most recognizable kits in football.
The Blaugrana home strip prevents Erik ten Hag’s men from entering the pitch in the traditional United red. Instead, Manchester United have confirmed that the Red Devils will test Barcelona in the white Adidas away kit.
It will not be the first time that United wears white to compete against Barcelona.
History of United’s white kit vs. barca
To date, Manchester United have faced Barça in white seven times.
These clashes date back to United’s defeat in the 1984 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup first leg at the Camp Nou.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s United wore white in the 1991 European Cup Winners’ Cup final in Rotterdam.
The team then took to the field in black for the humiliating defeat in the 1994 European Cup.
United tested Barça in unforgettable 3-3 home and away draws in the 1998 Champions League group stage.
The Red Devils preferred the same uniform color for the first legs of the 2008 semifinal, the 2009 final, and the 2011 final.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United opted for the pink second kit against the Spanish titans in 2019 after turning in a phenomenal performance against Paris Saint-Germain in the previous round.
Whether United wear green or white in the clash against the Catalan giants, it promises to be a spectacle, with the former enjoying spectacular form.
