Why Juventus remain optimistic ahead of capital gains appeal trial

After 22 matchdays in Serie A, Juventus have scored enough points on the pitch to be in the top three. But due to a 15-point deduction, the Bianconeri are currently in the middle of the table and still out of contention for the European places.

Despite being acquitted among other clubs in the initial capital gains trial last year, the prosecutor requested that the case be reopened due to new evidence, ultimately resulting in a severe penalty.

However, the club insists on its innocence in the absence of specific regulations that punish what it has considered an illegal practice aimed at registering capital gains in a shady way.

According to Sport Italia journalist Michele Criscitiello (via JuventusNews24), the new management remains optimistic after filing an appeal with the Olympic committee.

Juventus believe that the diplomatic work of the club’s Director of Football, Francesco Calvo, will pay off.

Apparently, the club has reopened channels with the FIGC, and the federation would have been aware of the weakness of the arguments mentioned in the verdict.

Therefore, the Bianconeri hope that the appeals committee will return the file to the federal court for review, which would result in a lesser sentence.

However, the journalist warns that the Prisma case (based on alleged salary maneuvers during the Covid-19 pandemic) is still a different case, and possibly more dangerous.
