Wayne Rooney urges Kylian Mbappe to leave PSG

Former England international Wayne Rooney urged Kylian Mbappé to leave PSG to reach the levels of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Kylian Mbappé is one of the most talented footballers of his generation.

The 23-year-old attacker enjoyed an excellent 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign with France. He won the tournament’s Golden Boot after scoring eight goals in seven appearances. Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick during the final against Argentina, but that couldn’t stop France from suffering a 4-2 defeat on penalties.

While speaking to News 18, Wayne Rooney said that Kylian Mbappe would have to leave Paris Saint-Germain to reach the levels of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He named Manchester United and Real Madrid as his ideal destinations for the Frenchman.

Rooney said (h/t Man Utd news): “I think he needs to leave that club and go to the PL, PSG are a huge club but I think he’s done everything he can in Ligue 1. Maybe a Manchester United or Real Madrid. If he needs to reach the level of Messi and Ronaldo, I think he should join Manchester United or Real Madrid.”

Kylian Mbappe joined Paris Saint-Germain from AS Roma in 2017. He has made 237 appearances (in all competitions) for PSG so far, registering 190 goals and 93 assists. The 23-year-old attacker helped the Paris side win four Ligue 1 titles, among other honours.

However, Kylian Mbappe is reportedly looking to leave the French club. He could move away from the Parisian team at the end of the season. Real Madrid, Manchester City and Liverpool are emerging as possible destinations for him.

Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni wants Lionel Messi to continue his international career. Messi’s international future has been the subject of speculation after he announced that this Albiceleste World Cup will be his last.

Speaking to the media, Scaloni said: “Messi should have a place in the next World Cup, we want him to continue. If he wants to continue playing, the ’10’ will always be ready for Lionel”.

Lionel Messi has been a key player for Argentina since he made his debut in 2005. He has represented his country 172 times so far, registering 98 goals and 55 assists.

The 34-year-old attacker helped La Albiceleste win a FIFA World Cup and a Copa América. He also won Argentina’s Player of the Year award record 14 times.
