Cristiano Ronaldo has also endured a difficult campaign at club level. Manchester United terminated his contract last month after he gave a controversial interview in which he criticized the club’s board and manager Erik ten Hag. Ronaldo made 40 Premier League appearances during his second spell with Manchester United, scoring 19 goals and assisting three more.

The Portuguese international is currently a free agent. Chelsea, Newcastle United and Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr have shown interest in signing him in recent weeks. It is likely that he will make a decision about his future in the next few days.

Argentina will face Croatia at the Lusail Stadium on December 14. While the second semifinal between Morocco and France will meet at the Al Bayt Stadium on December 15.
