(Video) What LFC staff member told Derby boss Warne in the tunnel

Derby County manager Paul Warne has spoken highly of Liverpool after his side lost on penalties at Anfield last night.

The 49-year-old explained how he got “goosebumps” as You’ll Never Walk Alone echoed throughout the stadium before kick-off and labeled the noise inside L4 a “proper atmosphere”.

The manager was particularly impressed by a pre-penalty chat with a Reds staffer in the tunnel congratulating his team on their football in regulation time.

The Rams, now plying their trade in League One, held Jurgen Klopp’s side to a goalless draw during regulation time, but after Caoimhin Kelleher saved three penalties during the shootout, the Merseysiders advanced to the next competition round.

The former Rotherham boss stopped just short of classifying the tie as ‘David and Goliath’, but explained that he hoped it would be a night his players and traveling supporters could ‘treasure’.

The League Cup is a competition that many of the so-called bigger clubs don’t take much interest in, but it’s great to hear an opposition manager speak so honestly about his experience and we wish him all the best for the future.

We won the competition last season and wouldn’t it be great to defend the trophy again this time?
