It is not the first time that Liverpool have been accused of signing a player SOLELY because he played well against the Reds in his old team.

Make no mistake, Darwin Nunez shone against Jurgen Klopp’s men during his days at Benfica, but Damien Delaney’s suggestion that that was the sole reason behind our acquisition of the ‘soft’ Uruguayan is simply wrong.

It may very well have cemented certain ideas they already had about the quality of the 23-year-old and how he would fit into the Anfield squad, but our exploration is a bit more well thought out than quick decisions based on a game or two.
