(Video) Spurs told January approach for midfielder would be ‘waste of time’

Spurs have been urged not to bother trying to sign Barcelona defensive midfielder Franck Kessie in the January transfer window.

Despite being heavily linked to the Ivory Coast international (90min), journalist Dean Jones believes the Lilywhites would be wasting their time trying to make a bold move.

“I think a cheeky offer for Kessie in January would probably be a waste of time to be honest,” Jones told GiveMeSport.

“He’s basically chasing a dream here. And I think he’s going to give it the rest of the season before he even contemplates going anywhere else.”

Conte’s reported interest in the 25-year-old certainly makes sense. Spurs could use a few more options in midfield and considering that both the midfielder, who used to play for AC Milan, and Conte have experience working in Serie A, they will be familiar with each other.

However, considering that the African moved to the Camp Nou just six months ago, it seems incredibly unlikely that the Catalan giants will part with their new arrival so soon. Nor is it that he is not playing under Xavi’s orders. Kessi has already played 13 games, in all competitions, so clearly in his manager’s first-team plans, a January move, loan or permanent, seems highly unrealistic.
