Argentina’s big dispute with the Netherlands after their dramatic World Cup quarter-final has been revealed in a new video.
Despite an incredible comeback from the Netherlands in regulation time, where substitute Weghorst scored two late goals, including an equalizer in the 11th minute of stoppage time, Argentina won on penalties.
However, an exciting game turned ugly in the closing stages, with a series of altercations and raids during the game that saw the referee issue a record 17 yellow cards.
The players were furious at what they saw as intimidation tactics by Louis van Gaal’s team, and after they won the shootout, Lionel Messi and company made sure their opponents knew it.
Messi even confronted the Dutch coach afterwards and was stopped by the staff. He also hurled insults at the Burnley striker Weghorst while doing the post-match interview.

According to Weghorst, he was waiting near the tunnel for Messi to finish his interview so he could shake his hand and congratulate him. But he was disappointed to see the Argentine’s reaction. He said:
“I wanted to give him a hand after the game, but he crushed my hand and wouldn’t talk to me.”
“My Spanish is not good, but they were not respectful words. So it was really disappointing.”

Agüero said about the incident later that he intervened when he saw the player yelling Messi’s name. He said (via talkSPORT):
“We were just starting to get into the locker room when this big guy [Weghorst] He began to shout: ‘Hey, hey, Messi’.
Leo turned around to look at him and said what he said.
“Then the guy told him, ‘Come over here and say that,’ so I jumped in there and told him to shut up.
“I told him: ‘Why do you talk to Messi like that?’ Then he told me: ‘Don’t tell me to shut up’”.
