Virgil van Dijk had Gary Neville in a bind after the former Manchester United defender asked if Jamie Carragher would make it into Liverpool’s current squad.
The Dutchman offered a light-hearted response to the question put to him on The Overlap by stating that the Reds legend would be out of the squad altogether and would “be in the stands” instead.
Neville, who is Carragher’s colleague on Sky Sports, loved our No. 4’s comment and added insult to injury by telling the Dutch international: “You’re serious too, aren’t you?”

It will be interesting to see what the Bootle-born defender makes of the former Southampton man’s claim, but we certainly think the pair would have struck up a great partnership at the heart of our defence.
