Brighton arrived at Anfield and established an early dominance that would be more typical coming from the hosts in Liverpool, firing two tries past the Reds in the opening 17 minutes.
Both came from impressive Belgian Leandro Trossard and the striker capitalized on some deft passing moves from the Seagulls to double his lead in the first half of the action.
The Merseysiders have come back from worse before, although it has been far from the start Jurgen Klopp would have expected from his men.
