Liverpool have booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup, although they have every right to be outraged by the refereeing team’s decision to avoid penalizing Joe Wildsmith for obvious attempts to secure a penalty shootout advantage.
The Derby County goalkeeper was seen far from his line (and remarkably to the naked eye) to save Stefan Bajcetic, but somehow avoided punishment for the offence.
How the Reds youngster was not invited to retake his kick from the penalty spot is absolutely baffling and, thankfully, had no impact on the outcome of the contest.
