(Video) Calls grow for Eriksson to manage Liverpool in Legends match

There have been increasing calls for Sven-Goran Eriksson to be given the opportunity to manage Liverpool for the LFC Legends match at Anfield in March.

The annual charity fixture sees Ajax come to Merseyside in a couple of months, and there is a growing clamor on social media for the former England manager to (partly) fulfill one of his biggest dreams.

The 75-year-old, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer this week and has “a year to live at best”, has admitted he “always wanted” to manage the Reds, having been a fan of the club for a long time.

Speaking on Sky News, The Anfield Wrap’s John Gibbons said it would be a “fantastic” touch to see Eriksson leading the LFC Legends this year, despite the role being reserved for Sir Kenny Dalglish.

The podcaster stated: “We have a Legends game in March. He raises a lot of money every year for the fantastic LFC Foundation, and maybe there’s a role there to manage that team.

“It may be a Legends game, but there is always almost a full house at Anfield. Ajax is coming, so it’s a great occasion. Many great former players play and it is a wonderful occasion. You manage teams under the This Is Anfield banner. They say You will never walk alone so it will seem the closest thing [to managing the first team].

“I’ve seen quite a few Liverpool fans mention that.” [Eriksson managing LFC Legends team] and I think it’s a fantastic idea. It’s not my idea, but I’ve seen it and I think it would be absolutely brilliant.

“Kenny Dalglish usually does it, but he’s done it many times! I’m sure he will be delighted to pass it on to Sven because he is a fantastic footballer and popular throughout the country. I’m sure everyone would love to see him do it. “It is always a wonderful occasion and I am sure that will make it even more so.”

If Sir Kenny is happy to step aside and allow Eriksson to lead the LFC Legends this year, the Swede will absolutely be guaranteed an emotional reception at Anfield for the charity match in March.

It would be wonderful if the 75-year-old had that opportunity as he continues his terminal battle with cancer.
