Van Dijk in race for fitness for upcoming fixtures

Liverpool have taken another major physical blow as centre-back Virgil van Dijk has suffered a hamstring injury.

He was sent off during Monday’s clash with Brentford, in which the Merseyside side oversaw a 3-1 defeat at Gtech Community Stadium. Van Dijk was substituted at half-time and now joins Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota on the Anfield injured list.

After the game, Jurgen Klopp insisted that the injury was not too serious, however this morning it was confirmed that the defender’s problem is more serious than initially expected. He will now face an extended period on the sidelines with an exam scheduled in the coming days to determine the extent of his absence.

European football is on the horizon

A major concern on the minds of Liverpool staff and fans is that Champions League football returns next month; They will face reigning champions Real Madrid at home on February 21 in a round of 16 tie, and to be without their main man in defense is cause for concern.
