Many people outside Liverpool have pointed to Sadio Mane’s departure as the reason for our poor start to the season and Virgil van Dijk has weighed in on his former teammate’s role.
Speaking to Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports, the 31-year-old said: “Sadio was a great player for us but he wanted to go, it’s not like we let him go… I don’t think that will happen.” [Mane’s departure] It is the exact reason why we are not acting.”

It’s interesting to hear how the Netherlands captain clearly doesn’t blame the club for the departure of our former number 10, as it was the player’s decision and they respected him.
No doubt any team would miss his ability but as our central midfielder says, we have Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez settling into Jurgen Klopp’s side and ready to make a big impact.
