US Soccer releases World Cup roster announcement details

On November 9, fans of the United States Men’s National Team will have an announcement with details of the 2022 World Cup roster. Gregg Berhalter and select players will be in person during the 26-player launch. Fans can watch all the coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN+ that night.

The entire event begins at 5 pm, with live coverage from Brooklyn Steel in New York City. Brooklyn Steel, an 1,800-seat music venue, is a hall where attendees stand. However, the event is by invitation only. There is also a reception and post-reveal party on either side of the actual name announcement.

For those watching at home, the hour-long show is available through both traditional television and streaming. As stated, viewers can catch it at 5 pm on ESPN2 or ESPN+. In addition to the revelation and Gregg Berhalter, there are players who will travel to Qatar to play. However, as this is a Wednesday, with many midweek games leading up to the World Cup, it is likely that many of the players in attendance will be those from MLS teams. By November 9, the MLS Cup is over, leaving the door wide open in terms of timing.

That’s not to say that these players in person are just MLS representatives. US Soccer is careful not to release the names of the World Cup roster announcement before the big reveal.

The thing about the 26 players traveling to Qatar for the World Cup is the notable lack of experience. In addition to failing to qualify in 2018, the United States had the youngest team among all teams in Qatar through qualifying. The Ghana team during qualification had an average age of 25.67 years. The USMNT, meanwhile, averaged 23.82.

There are a couple of locks for the trip to Qatar. Christian Pulisic, Walker Zimmerman, Matt Turner, Weston McKennie, Antonee Robinson and others all but secured their spots.

However, there is still uncertainty. Gregg Berhalter said he has 85% confidence in his final squad. Therefore, he has about four names to consolidate on his roster for Qatar.

Regardless of the final team, Berhalter, as well as the players, are under immense pressure. With the growing popularity of the sport and the expectations that follow, this young team has a big task.

That begins against Wales on November 21 when the Stars and Stripes take on Gareth Bale and Wales.
