By Brad Marchetti: Unbeaten welterweight southpaw Harold Calderon, 26-0, 17 KOs, returns from an 11-month layoff to face Argentine veteran Ezequiel Fernandez, 28-5-1, 3 KOs, from the luxurious Doubletree Hotel in Miami, FL. The “King” Calderon has some good tools, but he will face a tough client in part-time kickboxer Fernandez.
The stacked Rivalta Boxing fight card is sold out but can be streamed on FiteTV for $19.99. Flashy Miami resident Calderón, 35, is a fan favorite who always draws a crowd, with celebrities like Dwanye Wade, Rick Ross and Adrien Broner frequently in attendance. Calderon will be looking to make a statement against Fernandez as he continues his quest for a title shot before time rules him out.
The stacked undercard features bare-knuckle fighter Ulysses “The Monster” Diaz, 13-1, 12 KO’s, who owns the fastest bare-knuckle knockout in boxing (0:03) in a cruiserweight bout against Quintell Thompson. Another bare-knuckle fighter on the card is heavyweight great Gustavo Trujillo, 29, who makes his professional boxing debut after going 4-0 in bare-knuckle boxing, all by first-round knockout. After losing a 12 round decision to contender Robert Easter Jr. 140 Lb. boxer/puncher Ryan Martin, 24-2, 14 KO’s, will face Colombian Carlos Padilla, 18-12-1, 12 KO’s.
Undefeated 122 Lb. prospect Jorge Romero Jr., 22-0-1, 14 KO’s, will be in a 10-round matchup against Argentine goalkeeper Julián Aristula, 35-15, 18 KO’s. Top-ranked lightweight prospect Frank Zaldivar, 3-0, 1 KO, from Cuba will face veteran Daulis Prescott, 33-17, 25 KO’s, in a good litmus test Zaldivar, who went 63-15, 9 KO’s as an amateur. Highly Promoted 6’4″ 212 Lb. Cuban heavyweight Fernando Cuza will also make his debut against undefeated Cody Kerr, 2-0, 1 KO. Another prospect to watch out for is the promising 126 Lb. southpaw Victor Abreu, 1-0, 1 KO.
