Tyson Fury says he won’t be fighting Anthony Joshua in December

Anthony Joshua out. Enter Mahmoud Charr.

That’s the word from heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who announced on social media that Joshua missed a deadline to sign a contract to fight him on December 3 and will not be his opponent. Instead, he will defend his belt against Charr, possibly in Cardiff, Wales.

We will see if this is the last word on the subject or if there is hope for the confrontation between all the British.

Fury, obviously tired of waiting for the deal to be completed, said Joshua had to sign on the dotted line by 5pm UK time Monday or he would move on.

Fighter managers met Monday to iron out remaining details, primarily how the fight would be televised and broadcast. Fury and Joshua are aligned with competing broadcast companies.

However, no final agreement was reached. And Fury made good on his threat.

He said in a video: “Well guys, it’s official. D-day has come and gone. It’s already past 5 in the morning on Monday. No contract has been signed. It’s officially over for Joshua. Now he’s out in the cold with the wolf pack. Forget it. Idiot! Coward! I always knew he didn’t have the minerals to fight ‘The Gypsy King’. Good luck with your career and your life. End of [story]. Calm down.”

Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs) was expected to face Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship after the Ukrainian defeated Joshua in back-to-back fights. However, Usyk indicated that he will not fight until next year and Fury did not want to wait.

That’s why he turned to Joshua, who remains an attractive opponent despite his setbacks. A Fury-Joshua showdown could be the biggest fight in British boxing history commercially.

However, it looks like at this point that fight will have to wait as well, which is certainly disappointing for fans.

Char? The 37-year-old Lebanese-born German is a longtime contender with solid skills and a decent size (6-foot-3½, around 245 pounds), but he’s not in the class of the great bigs.

He has lost his biggest fights, including a fourth-round knockout against then-champion Vitali Klitschko in 2012. He also has losses against Alexander Povetkin, Johann Duhaupas and Mairis Briedis. He won three fights after the Briedis setback and then left the sport for three and a half years, at least in part due to promotional issues. He is 2-0 in the comeback from him, stops Christopher Lovejoy Nikola Milacic.

Fury appears to be happy to face Charr (33-4, 19 KOs).

He wrote on Instagram: “I hope to fight a man who wants to fight and has fire and desire. He Fought some of the best fighters and now he’s back up! Get in there Charr.
