Two-year Liverpool target not ‘consistent’ enough

Liverpool have been looking for a midfielder on the market for the last two years and a name that has been closely associated with us now seems to be a less desirable prospect for the Reds.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano writing for CaughtOffside: “[Sander Berge] He was on the Liverpool list two years ago, now he has shut up and the priorities are different. I think he’s a very good player, but he needs to be more consistent to get top movement.”

Sander Berge was one of several players in the last transfer window that seemed like a potential late deal that could cross the line, until we decided to sign Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus.

The Sheffield United man had plenty of suitors before joining the Blades in 2020 and with his subsequent relegation from the Premier League, it seems we’ve been following the player in hopes of securing a cheaper deal.

However, the fact that we and no one else have decided to take the step for the Norwegian shows that he is not considered to have been at the desired level to take the step from the second division of English football.

Three goals and three assists in 20 appearances this season is certainly not a terrible comeback, but it seems Anfield’s interest in the player is waning.

However, with just 18 months remaining on his contract, now is the time for the 24-year-old to put himself on the shelf and perhaps secure a big move elsewhere.
