Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold said their shock defeat to Leeds United was “difficult to accept” and disappointing.

Liverpool hosted Leeds United at Anfield in a Premier League match on Saturday and suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the visitors. Leeds United scored late in the game to win all three points and inflict defeat on the Merseyside side.

Liverpool found themselves trailing just four minutes into the game after a defensive howl. Joe Gomez’s sloppy no-look pass to goalie Alisson backfired. His pass was deflected and Alisson slipped as Rodrigo Moreno lobbed the ball into an empty goal to give Leeds United the lead.

Mohamed Salah, however, equalized 10 minutes later, Andy Robertson’s cross into the Leeds United box. However, the visitors dealt a fatal blow in the 89th minute when Crysencio Summerville pushed the ball past Alisson and into the Liverpool net.

Speaking after the match, Alexander-Arnold admitted that it was a disappointing result. The England international lamented the chances they wasted and insisted they created enough chances to win the game.

“It is difficult to accept. You never want to lose at home, something we take pride in. For us, we want to win as many games as we can,” Alexander-Arnold told Liverpool’s official website.

“It is a disappointing result. We create enough chances to go and win that game, but in football, you get punished for not taking your chances. We have been punished.

The loss to Leeds United was Liverpool’s second in a row in the Premier League. They had fallen to an upset 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in their previous game in the English top flight.
