Trent Alexander-Arnold Hits Back at Criticism of His Defending Ahead of FIFA World Cup Next Match

Trent Alexander-Arnold, a defender for the Liverpool and England national soccer teams, has responded to criticism he receives for his defence. Although Alexander-Arnold is considered one of the best full-backs in the world, his defensive abilities have often been put under a microscope.

Despite criticism over his defensive skills, Trent Alexander-Arnold is part of England’s squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, the Liverpool right-back is not Gareth Southgate’s first-choice right-back for England in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The mixed start to the 22/23 season with Liverpool didn’t help Alexander-Arnold’s case either.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has now responded to that criticism, suggesting that it has reached a point where it is a vague opinion.

The England defender believes he is being unfairly judged by people who go to games with the preconceived idea that he is not a good defender.

“I think it’s gotten to a point where it’s the lazy opinion, it’s the lazy thing to say,” he told talkSPORT. “People who just watch the game and see what they want to see, I think there is that prejudice now.

“You see what you want to see at the end of the day. If you go to a game and you have the perception that a player is lazy and you see him once when he doesn’t run, then in your mind he is lazy. You don’t see the rest of the game where they’re running, running.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold added that when people go into games with preconceived ideas about him, they confirm what they think when he makes a mistake. He also believes that he is held to standards that other players don’t meet.
