Hello and welcome to my latest daily report! I hope you enjoy this exclusive transfer news roundup – if you want it in your inbox five mornings a week, SUBSCRIBE here.
There is ongoing speculation about who Arsenal could be looking to sign in midfield this January, and one name I am seeing more of is Danilo de Palmeiras.
Danilo is one of the players that Arsenal have been following for a long time, it was also discussed internally last summer, but at the moment there are no ongoing talks. We’ll see if that changes, but for now I’d take any rumors of negotiations or deals with a pinch of salt.
Personally, I think the termination of Youri Tielemans’ contract is a great opportunity in the market for Arsenal and any other club. They decided not to pay for him this summer, but let’s see if his plans change if or when he becomes a free agent.
With the arrival of a new manager, we are already seeing speculation about Aston Villa’s transfer targets for January, with some talk of Unai Emery’s foray into his former club Villarreal for Yeremi Pino.
Honestly, it’s too early to know the goals; the deal for Emery was made just 48 hours ago and as always, there are rumors about players who have been working with that manager. It’s typical but we’ll know more in January!
Barcelona president Joan Laporta: “We have to look forward. We knew that in this process of rebuilding the team there would be ups and downs. The message to the fans is that we look forward. Xavi also makes the youngsters play so that they grow up”.
Barcelona invested a lot this summer and their hopes in the Champions League are over, but I don’t think the project will change: they will continue working on new signings, to save significant salaries in 2023, rebuild the squad and then continue with their idea
Remember that they also want to win the League and are still in the race. Even without the Champions League, winning the title would be more than just a detail.
Chelsea’s rebuild under Todd Boehly continues with four key arrivals, plus click here for an update on Christopher Nkunku.
Chelsea are also in contact with Jorginho’s agent, he loves the club and London, but a new contract will depend on the financial discussion. I think it would be smart for Chelsea to keep at least one of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante: they have quality, experience and can still help the team and make a valuable contribution.
As I said recently, it looks like Kante’s future is uncertain and a free transfer exit is a possibility, so it might be worth doing whatever it takes to keep Jorginho at Stamford Bridge or Chelsea will find themselves a bit light on the midfield.
Inter president Steven Zhang: “Milan Skriniar is an incredible player and he knows I want him to stay. I have a lot of confidence to reach a new agreement”.
Beppe Marotta, CEO of Inter: “Milan Skriniar deserves a new contract. We hope to reach a full agreement on the new agreement as soon as possible, I am optimistic. We want it to be a symbol of Inter for the present and the future”.
Manchester City have finally agreed a deal for hugely talented Emilio Lawrence after lengthy transfer negotiations with Everton. It’s done: the deal has been signed and a medical has been completed. Great statement from City to sign more great talents for the future.
Ten Hag on Ronaldo: “Cristiano Ronaldo is back with our team, yes. It’s not that difficult: he was out for a game and now he’s back in the squad”.
Ten Hag on Maguire: “Harry Maguire has a role to play. On his way back and now he has to get back to these games.”
Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli on Cristiano Ronaldo’s links: “Ronaldo in January? We will not sign any players in January. We don’t need to change anything in this team. We are doing very well and we are not planning any signings, as of today.”
Napoli manager Cristiano Giuntoli on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Man City rumors: “There is absolutely nothing. I can tell you that Kvaratskhelia is 100% untouchable. It is absolutely NOT on the market.”
A smarter deal from Napoli with the signing of Gio Simeone: €3 million loan, €12 million non-mandatory purchase option clause. Simeone flies with six goals in 367 minutes, including four Champions League goals in his first season in the competition.

Newcastle’s plans for Bruno Guimaraes remain very clear and will not change: the club wants to offer him a new long-term contract with a salary increase. Of course, many top clubs are interested in signing Bruno in 2023 after his Premier League form, but Newcastle want to keep him.
On the other hand, Chelsea have consulted Newcastle about the possible signing of Guimaraes, while Real Madrid is also interested (Evening Standard)
Deal done: Thomas Reis will be the new head coach of Schalke 04, deal valid until June 2024. He will be officially unveiled as the new manager this week.
Sorry Tottenham fans but no news on Alessandro Bastoni at the moment; he has a long-term contract with Inter and will not leave in January, despite speculation to the contrary. I can’t even give you a clear idea of the asking price as I don’t think Inter will say one, but I’m sure they won’t sell it for the €50-60m I’ve seen.
Bastoni is a great player and it makes sense that the link with Antonio Conte keeps coming up, but honestly I don’t see it as an easy deal for Spurs. However, as I said yesterday, I think we will see ups and downs at the club this January as they try to support Conte in the market.
