Trace McSorley Set To Start For The Arizona Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Trace McSorley is projected to start Sunday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McSorley will start because Colt McCoy was ruled out with a concussion. Before the injury, McCoy threw for just 73 yards on 13 completions. McSorley didn’t fare much better, as he threw for just 95 yards on 7 completions. He also threw two interceptions.

This season for Arizona is one that fans would like to forget. With the plethora of injuries, the Cardinals were knocked out of playoff contention last week. Now the Cardinals have lost their two best quarterbacks in the span of two weeks, giving McSorley the first start of his career.

Trace McSorley was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. He played college ball for himself at Penn State University. McSorley is known for being a dual threat option at quarterback. In the three full seasons he started, he topped 350 rushing yards. In his final season he rushed for his career-high 798 yards.

McSorley hasn’t started any games thus far, so it will be interesting to see how he performs against Tampa Bay’s tough defense. Quarterback David Blough is on the practice squad for the Arizona Cardinals, who will likely back McSorley. It also wouldn’t be surprising to see Blough put in a few reps at quarterback in this game if McSorley struggled.

These quarterbacks and Arizona will have a simple game plan. That’s giving the ball to James Conner and DeAndre Hopkins. Both guys are arguably your best offensive weapons, and will likely be your best chance to win and spoil Tampa’s playoff chances. Plus, Marquis “Hollywood” Brown is no slouch either. Whoever the quarterback is, at least he has some good throwing weapons.

Tampa Bay is now an 8 point favorite according to NFL betting sites. Things could get ugly for McSorley and the Cardinals.
