Sporting have produced some of the best talent who have adapted to English Premier League football quite easily. One of the biggest names is Bruno Fernandes, who saved Manchester United’s season after joining in January 2020.

Ugarte has already been capped six times by the Uruguayan national team and moved up to the Primeira Liga last year, after joining Famalicao from Uruguayan side CA Fenix. But just after 7 months, he secured a transfer to Sporting for a fee of 6.5 million euros for 50 per cent of his economic rights.

Ugarte has become a sensation after joining the Portuguese giants in 2021. His preferred position on the pitch is defensive midfield, but he can also cover central midfield. In his 50 games with Sporting he has scored a goal and given 2 assists.

The player has already made 12 appearances in all competitions. In his most notable appearance, he put on an impressive display in Sporting’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Spurs in September.

The Uruguayan international is a solid man in midfield. He makes tough tackles with an excellent record of getting the ball back. Spurs are in search of a reliable midfielder, and the Uruguayan’s technical prowess and passing range are a perfect fit for Conte’s three-man set-up.

His physique is well suited to English Premier League football. Ugarte’s contract has a release clause of £53m. But Sporting CP are seeking to increase the release clause to more than £70m by offering a new contract.

According to Record, if Tottenham Hotspur meet the valuation, they will break their previous transfer record. But Ugarte still has a long way to go to become the final product.

After replacing Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte has transformed the philosophy of the squad and has brought consistency to the squad. In January, the signing of him by Juventus pair Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur changed the entire game of the north London club.

After finishing in the top four, Conte has brought in seven new faces this summer. Richarlison and Yves Bissouma are the big names among them. Only time will tell if Manuel Ugarte can become a new addition to Conte’s team or not.
