Todd Boehly Trying to Emulate Man City’s Project

Chelsea News: Chelsea’s new owners have confirmed that the London club have plans to move forward with a ‘multi-club’ model.

Todd Boehly captured the club for £4.25bn at the end of May. He really wanted to own a big English Premier League club for a long time. So the American owner jumped at the chance to snatch Chelsea from other bidders.

The London Blues have spent more than £270m in the summer transfer window. They brought players like Raheem Sterling, Zakaria, Aubameyang, Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana to the club. They have also brought in some young talent such as USMNT goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina and Aston Villa’s Carney Chukwuemeka.

Many fans thought that he would not be as ruthless as the former owner, Abramovich. But the boss of the LA Dodgers just fired Thomas Tuchel just because of the result of the first six games this season.

It seems that Boehly is a big fan of Manchester City’s “multi-club” model and wants to emulate that project here too.

After appointing Graham Potter, the club wants to move forward with developing young talent into great world-class players. Chelsea is famous for having one of the best youth academies in the world.

They have already produced some local talent like Mason Mount, Gallagher, Reece James, Armando Broja, Loftus-Cheek and more who are on loan. Graham Potter is the perfect choice for the project he wants to take on.

Reports suggest that Potter has brought positivity to Chelsea. Potter will manage his team against Red Bull Salzburg in today’s Champions League match.

While speaking at the SALT conference, Boehly revealed: “We don’t expect to be the soccer experts to find the best talent. We’re going to put those people in their place… We’ve talked about having a multi-club model and I’d love to build the footprint.” During the talks, Boehly mentioned Red Bull: “I think there are different countries where there are advantages of have a club Red Bull does a very good job, they have Leipzig and they have Salzburg, both of which are playing in the Champions League.” He also made some comments about his English club-mate Manchester City, adding: City, who have a great network of clubs. The challenge that Chelsea has at the moment is that when you have superstars aged 18-20, you can lend them to other clubs, but you put their development in someone else’s hands.”

Chelsea’s long-term vision is to advance young players and develop them into “Chelsea superstars”. The new co-owner confirmed his next plan, as he spoke: “For me, the way to do it is to have another club in a very competitive league, maybe somewhere in Europe.”
