In what was billed as his final fight, German super welterweight favorite Ronny Gabel (30-8-1, 21 KOs), 39, lost a twelve-round majority decision to Ilias Essaoudi (22-2, 15 KOs) in a clash. for the vacant WBO European title. Essaoudi won by scores of 114-114, 117-110, 118-110. The fight was a rematch of their clash in May that ended in a no-decision after an accidental headbutt.
