Thierry Henry has warned Arsenal that Gabriel Jesus is not a striker who can score between 25 and 30 goals per season.
Arsenal signed Jesus in the summer transfer window, landing the Brazilian striker from Premier League rivals Manchester City. Jesus has been largely impressive for Arsenal and has already racked up five goals for the north London side.
However, he has failed to score a goal for Arsenal in his last five appearances for Mikel Arteta’s men. He also splurged in front of goal in Arsenal’s previous game in the Premier League.
Jesus wasted three chances against Southampton as Arsenal lost two important points after drawing 1-1 with the Saints.
Thierry Henry vindicates Gabriel Jesús in the midst of the Brazilian’s scoring drought
Speaking on CBS Sports, Henry stated that Jesus is not a striker who will score 25-30 goals per season. Henry, however, also said that Jesus can exert more pressure and that what he does is contagious.
“Jesus is a guy who can push harder; Will it be a guy who will score between 25 and 30 goals? No. But what he does is contagious. Then there are the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, who can do wonders,” Henry said on CBS Sports. [via The Mirror].
Arsenal face PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League group stage in their next game. Speaking before the game, Jesus addressed the goal drought he finds himself in now.
Jesus said it’s part of football and the scoring drought will happen again, but insisted he will try and score 100% in his next game with the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have made a stellar start to the 22/23 Premier League season. Mikel Arteta’s men top the Premier League points table with 28 points from their 11 league games this season.
Arsenal enjoy a two-point lead over Man City, who are the defending champions and sit second in the points table. The Gunners have nine wins, one draw and one loss so far in the Premier League this season.
Arsenal also enjoy a 100% winning record in the Europa League this season. The English side have played four games in the competition this season and have won all of them. They lead Group A with 12 points from four matches in the 22/23 Europa League season.
