Thiago “Marreta” Santos signs with the PFL

Thiago “Marreta” Santos, the former UFC light heavyweight title challenger, is headed to PFL. Santos recently signed a multi-fight with the PFL, ending a 10-year, 24-fight run with the UFC. Santos will now compete in the 2023 PFL light heavyweight season.

Santos is now the second UFC fighter to sign under the PFL banner. FightBook MMA announced that featherweight contender Shane Burgos has joined PFL after he terminated his contract with the UFC.

“It was an amicable split with the UFC,” Santos manager Alex Davis told ESPN. “Thiago is very grateful for everything the UFC has done for him, and he is very grateful to the PFL for signing him. He is looking forward to winning a million dollars.”

Santos will leave the UFC with five losses under his belt. He has headlined numerous UFC events since his debut in 2013. One fight fans will remember is his light heavyweight title fight at UFC 239 in July 2016 when he lost a split decision to Jon Jones.

His memorable UFC wins include Jan Blachowicz, Kevin Holland, Jack Hermansson, Johnny Walker, Jimi Manuwa, Nate Marquardt and Anthony Smith. His most recent loss was against Jamahal Hill in a back-and-forth fight at UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Hill.
