‘They could get weak’ – Journalist drops Dortmund insider update that could allow LFC to sign Bellingham in January

It is becoming increasingly clear that just signing a midfielder in the January transfer window will not solve all the problems Liverpool are currently experiencing on the pitch.

That said, it would be foolish to dismiss the prospect of a new addition leading to at least some performance improvement, particularly given that it looks like the midfield department is at the root of the rot.

The Reds may very well have a chance to get an instant boost – and a big one – in the current window after Jan Aage Fjortoft tweeted that Borussia Dortmund ‘might get weak’ and allow Jude Bellingham to leave before the summer for 150 million euros (132.6 million pounds sterling).

That’s an obscene amount of money for a 19-year-old, especially during the winter window, though it would help ease fears about the future of midfield and act as a signal of intent regarding our top four hopes.

Able to play in roles 6, 8 and 10, the former Birmingham City star would instantly provide much-needed versatility in the middle of the park, not to mention an even more sought-after dynamism.

Ultimately, Liverpool must ask themselves (if the money is actually available) what difference it will make to paying an extra €30m (£26.5m) at the end of the season.

Assuming we could shake Dortmund’s resolve now, a figure of less than £30m seems too small to be scared of, while next season’s Champions League football is far from guaranteed.
