“They are pursuing the player” – Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United are pursuing the transfer of €50m star

Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries is being “pursued” by Manchester United, although a transfer in January will be “really difficult”, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who spoke to GiveMeSport.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka reportedly over-qualified, the Red Devils are believed to be in the market for a new right-back, with Erik ten Hag of Dumfries emerging as a potential option.

According to Italian website CalcioMercatoWeb, both United and Chelsea are interested in moving Dumfries away from the San Siro.

According to the report, Inter will demand a fee of around €50m for the Dutch star, a price that may prove too high for the two Premier League clubs for a role where both have good options in Reece James. and Diogo Dalot.

The full-back has 2 years left on his current contract with the Italian club, which will mean that Inter will have a stronger position at the negotiating table as they will be in no hurry to sell him.

Dumfries celebrates scoring against the USA at the World Cup

And while Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United are after the player, he admits it’s highly unlikely they’d invest the crazy money on a right-back. He told GIVEMESPORT:

“I honestly don’t see them investing a lot of money in that position.

“So when I see links to Denzel Dumfries, it’s true that they’re going after the player, but I think it’s going to be very difficult for them to sign Dumfries in January, especially because they’re on a budget because of the Glazer situation and also because he needs to a striker.

“So, I don’t see the Dumfries deal available for Man United in January.”

During his time at Inter, Dumfries has established himself as one of the best attacking right-backs in the league, racking up seven goals and 10 assists in 65 appearances in all competitions.

He also had a great World Cup tournament, notably the match against the USA where he scored once and assisted twice, helping the Netherlands win 3-1.
