The return of Spike O’Sullivan

Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan will officially confirm his return to the ring in the coming weeks.

The Cork light middleweight has not been seen in the ring since May 2022 and since losing to Erislandy Lara in a fight for the WBA light middleweight title.

It hasn’t been completely quiet on the Mahon mustachioed man front since the Celtic Warrior Gym fighter was linked to an IBO title fight with Dennis Hogan and rumor suggests he came very close to challenging the man who dethroned the native of Kildare, James Metcalffe at the 3Arena on November 25.

However, there were some who feared that at 39 years old and without a fight in almost two years, one of the sport’s most colorful characters would never be seen punching again.

That won’t be the case as Paschal Collins, former trained foe of Chris Eubank Jr, David Lemieux, Billy Joe Saunders and Matthew Hall, revealed he is back in camp and training for a fight.

In fact, O’Sullivan revealed that there will be news soon about what’s next.

It remains to be seen at what level the former Irish champion returns. He may need some ring-cleaning action before getting into a big fight, although even during the break he was linked to notable names and fights.

The experienced performer may also be on UFC Fight Pass’ radar considering they plan to stream a Callum Walsh-led 360 Promotions event from Cork later this year. It wouldn’t be too shocking to see O’Sullivan left without a team on March 15 on Walsh’s return to MSG before accompanying his county teammate back to Ireland.
