According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Suboncuoglu, Galatasaray held talks to sign Rodríguez on loan from Al-Rayann. Negotiations were still continuing over how their £5.2m a year wages will be divided.

But the Turkish Club was willing to pay only a quarter of his salary. The Colombian midfielder won league titles with Porto, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, most notably two Champions League crowns with Los Blancos.

The Colombian attacker was willing to return to European football, as he spoke with El Chiringuito about his relationship with Valencia: “If Valencia calls me, I’m even from Qatar. I would take a pay cut. If you need someone to help Edinson Cavani, I’ll be there. It’s a great club with great fans.” But that move did not materialize.

With the Turkish league’s summer transfer window now closed, the Colombian star is forced to stay on the Middle East side.
