Ten Hag says Man United changing owners would be good

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said a change in ownership of the club would be a good thing. The Dutch boss made the comments to reporters in Spain, where the team is currently training. United played two friendly matches against LaLiga rivals during his stay. The Red Devils lost both meetings.

“My information is that it will only be good things because there will be more investment possible, which is good,” ten Hag explained to reporters.

It was previously announced last month that the current owners, the Glazer family, will be looking to sell the team. Americans initially began pouring money into United in 2005.

Ten Hag does not discuss the situation with the United owners

The manager also revealed that he has not yet spoken to the current owners about the situation. Instead, ten Hag is in contact with United CEO Richard Arnold.

“We talk about the culture we want, we talk about objectives, goals and the culture and he [Arnold] confirmed that it will not change, it will be even better because there will be more money available for this project”, said the coach.

Manchester United had a net spend of around $240 million during the last summer transfer window. Ten Hag’s former Ajax players Antony and Lisandro Martinez were signed by United for around $160 million combined. The club also spent a lot on Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Ten Hag wants more money to rival other clubs

Ten Hag hopes to invest even more in the club to help keep up with other teams in the Premier League. “Newcastle is coming, even West Ham, maybe not now in the table, but they have a great investment… You can quickly count seven or eight clubs that can compete in this league,” said the coach.

“It’s also about strategy, not just about money. But it’s clear that when you don’t have the right, quality players, you won’t be successful or achieve the goals you set for yourself.”

United currently sit fifth in the Premier League table. Following the conclusion of the World Cup, they will restart their campaign with a Carabao Cup match against Burnley on December 21.
