United Boxing Promotions organized a card in Toronto on Saturday with a scheduled 10-round middleweight affair between Sukhdeep Singh (12-0) and Xhuljo Vrenozi (18-4). Singh showed solid effective aggressiveness in the first while Vrenozi tried to keep some degree of distance. The second saw Singh continue to stalk his man. Vrenozi did not fare poorly in the third, but Singh fared better thanks to leadership in the ring and more effective punches.

Singh seemed to raise the temperature in the room a bit. While it was true that Vrenozi was fighting hard, he was not fighting well enough to control the taller, more polished Singh. With that in mind, Vrenozi looked more aggressive in the fifth. Singh seemed to hurt his man in the sixth, then Vrenozi lost his mouthpiece a second time, gaining valuable seconds. Singh then threw Vrenozi to the mat and took a shot while his opponent was down. The referee, however, did not seem to notice.

Singh appeared to be in control in the seventh, although neither man seemed capable of hurting the other. Vrenozi moved too much for Singh to really catch up with him in the eighth, although it was clear that Singh was winning the fight. Round nine essentially offered more of the same. In the final round, Vrenozi didn’t seem eager to stretch for a win. Singh was clearly the dominant one of the two fighters. Suffice it to say, Singh came away with a unanimous decision win, courtesy of the judges, and a much better performance in the ring than his opponent.
