Spurs-Man City is second most-watched game in US history

Sunday’s game between Spurs and Man City was the second most watched Premier League game in American soccer history.

A total of 1.78 million watched the game on NBC, the digital properties of NBC Sports, Peacock and Telemundo. On NBC and Peacock combined, the number of viewers was 1.5 million. Telemundo added an additional 288,000 viewers.

Along with Arsenal-Manchester United’s record 1.9 million viewers on January 22, NBC Sports has recorded the two most-watched live Premier League games in US history in two weeks.

Run by Peacock, NBC Sports Digital posted an AMA of 358,000 viewers for Tottenham-Manchester City. That’s the second best for a simulcast Premier League game, behind only Arsenal-Manchester United on January 22 (510,000).

Earlier this season, Peacock’s exclusive Tottenham-Arsenal match on January 15 generated an AMA of 808,000 viewers, the best online streaming audience in the US for a Premier League match.

Spurs-Man City points to promising news

One of the main reasons NBC Sports is reaching more viewers is because both games are televised on NBC on Sundays. Typically, the only times Premier League games are shown on NBC are on Saturdays from 12:30pm to 2:30pm ET.

World Soccer Talk has learned that Premier League games will be featured more frequently on NBC in that time period in upcoming seasons. According to an NBC Sports spokesperson, it won’t be every week, but it will be more frequent than before.

With the news that select Premier League games will be shown in 4K via Peacock, this is yet another piece of good news for soccer fans in the United States.

For the season thus far, NBC Sports is averaging 524,000 viewers per TV game window. That’s a 4% increase from last season at this point. The 2021-22 season was the second most watched in American television history.
