Southgate responds to questions regarding future as England boss

England manager Gareth Southgate has answered questions about his future in the national team.

Tonight the Three Lions were left out of the World Cup following a 2-1 loss to reigning champions France.

Aurelien Tchouameni scored the opener before Harry Kane could respond by converting a penalty on 54 minutes. Olivier Giroud then headed in from a corner to retake France’s lead, giving England just 12 minutes to find an answer.

However, they were given a golden opportunity, as Theo Hernandez’s foul at Mason Mount led to England being awarded another penalty that night. Kane stepped up to try and score his second goal, but saw his effort go over the crossbar, ending the Three Lions World Cup campaign.

It is now three consecutive major tournaments in which England have come up short in the closing stages. They reached the 2018 World Cup semifinals, the Euro 2020 final and now the quarterfinals.

Due to his lack of success under Southgate, questions have been raised as to whether or not he will stay on as England manager.
