Southampton have scouts watching 23-year-old Celtic star

Southampton are said to be keeping an eye on Celtic’s Jota after his strong start to the current season.

The 23-year-old has scored five goals and assisted another five in his first 11 games in all competitions and was on the scoresheet in the midweek Champions League against RB Leipzig.

That is said to have impressed Southampton and now the Saints are eyeing the attacker for future windows, reports Football Insider.

The Premier League has scouts monitoring Jota at the moment and will follow his progress for the rest of the season.

Southampton are interested in Celtic’s Jota

Jota joined Celtic from Benfica on a permanent deal for around £6.5m in the summer, reports Football Insider, having spent the last season on loan at the Glasgow club.

The 23-year-old has signed a five-year deal with the Scottish champions which expires in 2027.

So if Southampton want the striker, they will likely have to pay a considerable amount more than the £6.5m Celtic paid, as the Glasgow club are not under pressure to sell one of their star players.

Jota has the potential to be a very good player and, at 23 years old, he has a lot of room to continue developing. This could be a very good signing for Southampton, but there is too much time between now and the next summer window to say the striker is definitely on the move.
