Shot-shy GGG too late as Canelo Alvarez ends trilogy victorious

Gennadiy Golovkin couldn’t get going when the Kazakh puncher legitimately lost to Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.

Canelo held on to his undisputed WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF super middleweight belts with a unanimous decision.

GGG took eight rounds to get going and barely landed until he woke up in the ninth. By this time, it was already too late.

His Mexican nemesis racked up rounds at T-Mobile Arena, going 80-72 on WBN’s live scorecard.

Canelo Alvarez vs Golovkin

When he entered the competition, Golovkin won three rounds in a row until Canelo took the last one. In the end, WBN charged 117-111 for Canelo.

A judge saw it closer at 116-112. However, two officials somehow saw it 115-113 in what was not such a close fight.

Canelo could now aim to return to light heavyweight for a potential rematch with WBA world champion Dmitry Bivol.

After another outstanding performance on Saturday night, the 32-year-old is aiming to continue making history.

With their feud now over, Canelo and Golovkin hugged each other to acknowledge their lucrative efforts for the third time.

undercard results

Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez went to work for his final one-game victory over Israel Gonzalez. In a fight marked by a clash of heads and a low blow, Rodriguez did enough to earn the victory.

However, two of the dashboards were a bit broader than expected. Rodríguez got the nod 118-109, 117-111 and 114-113 with the judges.

Two fights before the main event, Ali Akhmedov did as expected against the tough warrior Gabriel Rosado. Akhmedov won every round of ten to score a complete shutout.

All three judges scored it 100-90 while Akhmedov boxed beautifully to improve to 19-1.

Austin “Ammo” Williams was too handy for tough Brit Kieron Conway as the American went undefeated through ten rounds.

Williams was making the best of things when he floored Conway with a hard hook at the end. The knockdown was enough to push Williams clear and over the line.

In the end, Williams made a unanimous decision.

Aaron Aponte and Fernando Molina remained undefeated after fighting to an eight-round split draw.

Aponte is now 6-0-1. Molina is 8-0-1.

Super middleweight Diego Pacheco got to 16-0 with a fifth-round knockout of Enrique Collazo just before the Pay Per View began.

Anthony Herrera kicked off the action in the opener with a five-round technical decision victory over Delvin McKinley.

Herrera won every round to take a 50-45 victory across the board. The 21-year-old goes to 3-0-1.
