Shakur Stevenson wins, moves up, and targets Devin Haney

Shakur Stevenson is eyeing a shot at the undisputed lightweight title after Devin Haney vs George Kambosos II goes on the books.

The 25-year-old made his plans clear after extending his winning record to 19-0 on Saturday night.

Despite losing his super featherweight world titles on the scale Thursday afternoon, he wasn’t about to lose the fight.

Shakur Stevenson defeated Robson Conceicao

Stevenson outpointed Robson Conceição by unanimous decision in twelve rounds. Scores read 117-109 [twice] and 118-108.

The WBC and WBO titles were vacated in front of 10,107 fans Friday night at the Prudential Center. It was the largest crowd ever to attend an arena boxing event.

Stevenson (19-0, 9 KOs) landed a career-high 199 punches, including a fourth-round knockdown to the body.

In the sixth, he surprised Conceição (17-2, 8 KOs). However, the Brazilian challenger held on hard. Referee David Fields deducted a point from the two-weight champion for shaking Conceição’s hip in the ninth round.

After the inauspicious ninth, Stevenson closed out the show with an eye-catching pound-for-pound display. She won the last three rounds on all three judges’ scorecards.

Devin Haney shot at lightweight

After losing weight by 1.6 pounds the day before, Stevenson will now begin his lightweight journey.

Undisputed champion Haney sits atop 135 pounds, with big names like Vasiliy Lomachenko also in play.

“I had a long week. I killed myself to gain weight. All I want to do is come here and perform. I did everything I could to do that,” Stevenson said.

“I’m just a dominant individual. With me against him, the referee, I did everything I could to try to beat [Conceicao] climb as high as I can.

“He held me all night, but I did my best. I think she was putting up with a lot every time she came in.

“As soon as I got inside, he grabbed me.”

Facing Haney after his October rematch battle with Kambosos in Australia, Stevenson added: “We have to fight the champion.

“Devin and I [Haney]we could block it. After he fights Kambosos, let’s do it!”
