Shakur Stevenson misses weight by 1.6 pounds, Robson Conceicao weighs in at 129.6

Shakur Stevenson has barely lost a round so far in his pro career, but he lost one on the scales on Thursday afternoon.

The RING junior lightweight champion weighed in at 131.6 pounds, well over the division’s 130-pound limit, for his homecoming title defense against Robson Conceicao, who weighed in under the 129.6-pound limit. Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs), who weighed in with only his underwear on, did not attempt to strip for a second attempt at the scales.

A Top Rank source tells The Ring that no decision has been made on whether Stevenson will attempt to weigh in again within the next two hours, and that both teams are still discussing their options. If Stevenson doesn’t make weight within that time frame, he would be stripped of his WBO and WBC 130-pound titles, with only Conceicao (17-1, 8 KOs) eligible to win the titles on Friday.

The 12-round fight will be Stevenson’s first at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ since his 2019 knockout victory over Alberto Guevara. Stevenson would go on to win the WBO featherweight title in his next fight, and has since risen to annex two 130-pound title belts with wins over Top Rank teammates Jamel Herring and Oscar Valdez.

Conceicao from Salvador, Brazil is fighting for a world title for the second time, having lost a controversial decision to Valdez a year ago.

The fight will headline a card on ESPN, which will begin broadcasting the main card live at 10 pm ET.
