WBC/WBO super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson failed to make weight for his fight against Robson Conceicao at Thursday’s weigh-in in Newark, New Jersey. Steven went up to 131.6 pounds and chose not to try to lose the 1.6 pounds of excess weight in the allotted time. Conceicao weighed 129.6.
The ESPN televised fight will continue as scheduled. Conceicao will claim both belts if he wins, otherwise the titles will remain vacant.
“I gave it my all,” Stevenson declared on social media. “I’ve been pro my whole career and I’ve gained weight, but my body can’t do 130 anymore. My health has to come first. I’ll go up to 135 in my next fight… it’s show time. I am locked up regardless. See you soon.
