Shakhtar CEO confirms talks with Arsenal over Mudryk

Arsenal are in firm talks with Shakhtar Donetsk about the possible transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk. The executive director of the Ukrainian club confirmed the discussions on Thursday. Sergei Palkin even claimed that he would be speaking to Gunners officials within five minutes of giving the interview.

“Negotiations are continuing,” Palkin said Thursday. “We receive offers, but they are not the ones we would like to see at our table.”

“Now, literally in five minutes, I will have a phone conversation with Arsenal,” Palkin continued. “We are open to negotiations, willing to exchange ideas and figures. If we agree, so be it. If we don’t, let it be another time.”

Arsenal send another offer to Shakhtar for Mudryk

The previous offer Palkin referred to was from the Gunners earlier in the week. Arsenal submitted a proposal of around $42 million with a further $21 million in add-ons if certain stipulations were met. Shakhtar rejected this proposal because of the structure and the total money offered.

Sky Sports claims that the Ukrainian team wants more than $100 million for its star player. It seems unlikely that the Gunners will extend their money to this amount. However, both parties could agree on a final valuation somewhere between the two figures.

Ukraine have scored some impressive goals

Mudryk is widely considered to be one of the most electric young players in Europe. An extremely fast player, the 21-year-old striker has already racked up seven goals and six assists in the Ukrainian Premier League. The winger has also performed in the Champions League. He currently has three goals and two assists in the European competition.

The Ukraine international made headlines on Monday when he posted watching Arsenal play West Ham on his tablet. Mudryk even previously stated that he couldn’t refuse to join the Gunners. With the player obviously interested in a move, Arsenal fans are hoping that his club can complete the signing.
