Saudi Arabia boss Renard has just made Jurgen Klopp ‘image’ claim

Herve Renard has cultivated a recognizable image of a manager in a crisp white shirt, though he insisted the decision had more to do with superstition than image.

The Saudi boss joked that Jurgen Klopp was certainly concerned about his image to some degree given the efforts he had put into correcting his eyesight and getting ‘the perfect teeth’.

“I wear the white jersey because it’s a winning jersey,” he says. “Now it has to be a winning jersey in Asia. I am very comfortable. I’m a bit superstitious, like many people in football. So now people are talking about it, I won’t change. I will end my career like this even if I don’t win anything else, but I hope to win something else.”

“Renard comes across as more image conscious than, say, Jurgen Klopp, in his baseball cap and tracksuit. But he points out that the Liverpool manager “now has no glasses” (after laser eye surgery last year) and “has perfect teeth… so he’s thinking about his image too!”

“He laughs again. “I feel comfortable like this,” she says. “This is the most important thing.”

The French manager secured a dramatic victory over Argentina in their opening group game at the World Cup, overcoming a first-half deficit to turn the tables on Leo Messi and company.

Image-wise, we’d say our Champions League-winning boss has absolutely no problem in that area; in fact, the cap and glasses were a signature combination of the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

Ultimately, Klopp has followed a similar level of logic to Renard in opting for a tracksuit in search of what he feels most comfortable in.

Frankly, we don’t care what the German shows up for, having more than earned the right to dress however he pleases.
