Santiago Arias’ move to Manchester United in doubt – Man United News And Transfer News

Free agent Santiago Arias had been linked with a move to Manchester United this week, but any potential transfer seems unlikely at the moment.

The Peoples Person had reported that United were looking to land free agency with Erik ten Hag keen to add competition for the right-back spot.

Until now, the Dutchman has preferred to use Diogo Dalot in that position, as Aaron Wan-Bissaka only got a rare chance as a substitute in the Liverpool game.

Throughout the summer it was rumored that the Englishman would, in fact, leave after being displaced by the Portuguese right-back.

In fact, he was named as a substitute in United’s last game against Real Sociedad, but was seen in the director’s box during the match.

Dalot had managed to break into the starting line-up under interim coach Ralf Rangnick and the German preferred the Portuguese for his attacking forays.

It is clear that he is a clear favorite of Ten Hag. His contract with the Red Devils is due to expire next season, but United have the option to extend it for another year.

Sergino Dest was rumored to be joining the club, but ended up joining AC Milan on deadline day after the club failed to make an offer.

According to Pipe Sierra via Sport Witness, several lawyers and agents who are involved in decision-making behind the right back are “not in dialogue or negotiations with the Red Devils.”

This casts doubt on any possible story linking the Colombian international with the club on a free transfer.

However, this does not entirely rule out a transfer as Arias is ‘free to negotiate on his own’ and no club is close to signing the player as of now.

United need backup at that position after Ethan Laird ended up on loan at QPR for the rest of the season.

Arias could solve those problems, but it remains to be seen if United actually end up making a move for the Colombian.
