Huerter was traded from the Hawks to the Kings last offseason. Sort of an amazing move from a Hawks perspective, as Huerter was very good for the Hawks and well-liked by the fan base. He first became a fan favorite after taking over Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020.
He was selected by the Hawks 19th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Maryland. On the Hawks, Huerter averaged close to 30 minutes per game and has improved each season. The Hawks got decent value for Huerter, but it looks like the Kings could have won the trade. The only good thing about the trade is that the Hawks got a future first-round pick.
Huerter appears to have found a new home in Sacramento. He is having the best season of his career. He is averaging a career-high in points with 15.6. He is also shooting a career-high 3-point percentage at 42%.
The Hawks have definitely missed their shot. One of Atlanta’s main concerns has been his ability to shoot from three-point range. Atlanta is shooting 33.3% as a team and doesn’t seem to be looking to improve at this current time. maybe the Hawks will correct their mistakes with this trade and look for someone similar and perhaps cheaper at the trade deadline. However, despite their shooting problems, they sit ninth in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Sacramento Kings have improved a lot since last year. the Kings still have a while to make the playoffs, but they seem to have things figured out at this point.
However, the Kings are one-point favorites at home, according to NBA betting sites. Maybe Huerter has that revenge game narrative against his former team.
