Rooted issues at Chelsea need gutting out – Talk Chelsea

It’s time to put Chelsea as a club first.

By this, I basically mean gutting this team of players. A team that is tired, past its sell-by dates, uninspiring and seriously lacking in quality.

I think our biggest problem right now and why we’ve been struggling year in and year out for the last three or four, is simply the lack of quality and technical ability that we have in our team. We can talk about tactics, we can talk about coaches, we can talk about managers and we can talk about substitutions, but for me all of that takes a backseat to the simple problem that our team is not good enough and hasn’t been for a long time. weather. sometimes.

I can really count on one hand when I’m asked which players I’d keep on this current team if I had the chance to sell them all, really. And therein lies the problem.

The players are the problem. Not only do they lack mentality, intensity and effort game by game, they also lack quality, and that is the end result.

If we really want to challenge ourselves to the top again, then we need to invest heavily in the team and we need to be completely ruthless with it. I don’t mind losing ‘experienced’ players, because while they can bring a bit of leadership, they don’t bring the quality or the consistency. They also don’t provide the real leadership needed, and by leadership I mean leadership from John Terry and Didier Drogba, not just someone who has “played a lot of games.”

That doesn’t wash with me. There is no backbone in this team, there is no fight. While they may want to fight each other and argue after games, that’s not the kind of leadership we need. We need a union and respect for others. The kind of respect that only players like Terry could demand and get. Someone in the locker room who not only yells aimlessly and swears and blames, but makes a motivational speech and encourages the players, that the players believe in themselves and believe in their ability.

I maintain that it is the players and the lack of quality that keep us where we are now, once again fighting only for a place in the top four. Trust me, I have serious doubts that we’ll get anywhere near that at this point.

If this is truly the long-term project, then we need to completely revamp this team. We need to SELL a lot of these players that are not good enough and sign proper replacements that not only bring the necessary quality and attributes that we need, but also the mindset, mindset and personalities that we need to bring back to this team. , something we have desperately missed for some time.

If we are serious about capturing players like City etc, then we need to see the same changes that we have seen from top to bottom on the operational side of the club, in the actual squad of players. Only then will we start to really see the differences in the field. You can’t pass a lemon off for an orange. We can’t keep trying to patch up the real elephant’s cracks in the room: our team just isn’t good enough.
